12:17 pm - Preview of Top Cow Production’s Artifacts No. 1

The Event FIVE Years in the Making!

Thirteen mystical Artifacts, including the Witchblade, the Darkness and others, guide the fate of the Top Cow Universe. For centuries, it’s been whispered that bringing together all 13 Artifacts would herald mankind’s destruction. But a mysterious figure has been manipulating events, laying plans to put Armageddon into motion. The final phase begins here, with the abduction of Hope, the daughter of Sara Pezzini and Jackie Estacado. What ensues will remake the entirety of the Top Cow Universe, from the Witchblade and the Darkness, to the Angelus, Magdalena, and countless others. Artifacts #1 is the perfect place for faithful readers to see their loyalty pay off, and for new readers to experience the Top Cow Universe.

Flames Rising is pleased to present several preview pages from this new series by Top Cow Productions:

8:21 pm - Another newbie

Just (like about 30 seconds ago) joined the community. And like the previous newbie - I'm a major Xena fan.

Witchblade was never shown on "normal" tv over here - only on a pay satellite channel so I missed it the first time around. I would have watched it had I known it was on because I was always a fan of the comics. Caught it in re-runs and liked season one - thought season two was disappointing to say the least.

The thing that really made me a fan of the show was Yancy (I never said I wasn't shallow *g*).

Don't know if the dvds will be available here (the UK) but if they are I'll buy them.

But only one set.

I have Xena on tape, UK dvd, US dvd (extras & commentary that never appeared on the UK versions) and if they produce it in HD or blu-ray I'll buy those too... obsession?? What obsession??

Oh yeah - I still buy the Witchblade comics... and I'll be up for the movies... even without Yancy...

3:25 am - The DVD’s here…where’s the fandom?

Hi, I'm new to the community, but not new to the show. I started watching when it first aired, about a month or two after my first love Xena: Warrior Princess was cancelled, and Witchblade helped me get through mourning a show that had been a major focus of my life for six years. I never bothered taping it like I did Xena, because I figured it would be available on DVD any day now, right?

Six years of bitching and obsessing later, I finally bought it at Best Buy on the 29th and it's just as good as I remember. After all that time, all the fans demanding that it be released on DVD, I was sure that the fandom would regroup, and return to squeeing and reminiscing and discussing the show. So I've been rather surprised and not a little disappointed to find myself alone in my enthusiasm. I keep writing post after post on my own journal, hoping to pique the interest of my friendslist, but nobody seems to be biting. So I see that I shall have to branch out and actively seek out other fans, instead of creating them from scratch.

I have read a little of the comic book (the first two of the Western tankobons, in black-and-white), even though graphic novels aren't really my thing, although I love movies and shows based on them, because I am that shallow and hypocritical, and got so desperate for the series that I would resort to reading *gasp* A COMIC BOOK. While I had some issues with the artistic style, I liked it okay, although it's not something I'd budget for at the expense of other stuff. I'm not crazy about the "crimefighting in a metal bikini" aspect (I don't strenuously object--I AM a Xena fan, after all--I just think it looks silly), and prefer the suit of armor concept used on the show. Judging by the posts in this community, I also seem to be the only one who actually likes Irons as portrayed in the show. :(

My point being, I really, REALLY love this show and miss fannish interaction, and I would like to see some life breathed into the fandom, to see a resurgence in fan fic and icons and vids. Now that the DVDs are available, the fandom no longer has to live on fuzzy memories and even fuzzier tapes.

Speaking of the DVDs, any thoughts on the additional material included? I was a bit disappointed but not surprised by the lack of bonus features: eighteen minutes of back story on the series AND the comic book, Gabriel's insights which contributed little to the series itself, plus some rather dull casting sessions with the actors spoon-fed scripts by faceless strangers. No episode commentaries, no deleted scenes, and oh yeah, most of the music rights got yoinked so certain songs were replaced. I'm not particular about the soundtrack, but if the music rights were why the DVD was delayed for so long, and they still lost the battle, why then, it seems it was delayed to no purpose.
